Z-Laser, Freiburg, Germany, a manufacturer of laser modules and laser projection systems, has named Stefan Randak as its new CEO. Kurt-Michael Zimmermann, founder and former managing director will stay as exclusive owner and chairman.

AngioDynamics, Albany, NY, a provider of minimally invasive medical devices for vascular access, surgery, peripheral vascular disease, and oncology, has appointed Louis J. Mazzarese, Senior Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer, and John Soto, Senior Vice President, Global Franchise, Peripheral Vascular.

Stryker Corporation, Kalamzoo, MI, announced that Kevin A. Lobo has been named the company's President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as being named to its Board of Directors. He was most recently Group President of Stryker Orthopaedics.

Alphatec Holdings, Inc., Carlsbad, CA, the parent company of Alphatec Spine, Inc., announced that Thomas McLeer has been appointed Senior Vice President of US Commercial Operations.

Metal Supermarkets, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, which supplies small quantity metals, has hired Timothy Tibbs as Director, Franchise Services and Operations.

Endologix, Inc., Irvine, CA, has named Charles Love as its new vice president of clinical affairs. Previously, he was vice president of clinical and regulatory compliance at CircuLite Inc.

Intelligrated, a leading North American-based automated material handling solutions provider, has appointed Paul Hensley to the position of senior sales engineer for its Cincinnati-based central regional operations.

Svelte Medical Systems, New Providence, NJ, which develops balloon expandable stents, appointed Jack Darby to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer. Mark Pomeranz will serve as Chief Operating Officer.

AMETEK Engineered Medical Components, Arlington, MN, has named Bryan Matters as European Sales Manager.

Expansions/Moves

Mainstay Medical is moving its head office and executive leadership to Dublin, Ireland, from Minneapolis, MN. Mainstay has developed an implantable device to help restore spine stability and ease back pain.

Cook Medical, Bloomington, IN, a leader in minimally invasive medical technologies, expanded its European operations by opening a new distribution center in Baesweiler, Germany, which will be its delivery hub for all European countries.

Qserve Group, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, a medical device regulatory consulting firm, opened its U.S. headquarters as Qserve America, Inc., at the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, Cambridge, MA.

ARGO Medical Technologies, Yokneam Ilit, Israel, which develops, manufactures, and markets walk restoration devices for people with lower limb disabilities, has established its US headquarters in Marlborough, MA.

OMAX Corp., Kent, WA, which designs and manufactures advanced abrasive waterjet machines and accessories, has expanded its campus to include a new 22,000 sf building that will extend its training, R&D, and engineering.

Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick, NJ, is expanding four plants in Puerto Rice, two in Gurabo, and one each in Manati and San Lorenzo.

Mergers/Acquisitions/Collaborations

Medtronic, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, and Kanghui Holdings, Changzhou, China, have entered into a merger agreement whereby Medtronic will acquire Kanghui, a provider of orthopedic devices and new products pipeline in trauma, spine, and joint reconstruction.

Sony Corp., Tokyo, Japan, has agreed to acquire more than 10 percent of Olympus Corp., also based in Tokyo. Olympus reports that it and Sony are planning to set up a company to jointly develop and manufacture endoscopes and other medical devices featuring 3D imaging and super-clear displays.

Electrochem Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Greatbatch, Inc., Clarence, NY, has completed the acquisition and integration of Micro Power Electronics, Inc. (Micro Power). The organization will move forward as Electrochem Solutions, Inc.

Creganna-Tactx Medical, Galway, Ireland, a provider of medical device outsourcing solutions has acquired ABT Medical, Wexford, Ireland, which designs and manufactures medical balloons for minimally invasive devices serving a global portfolio of medical device companies.

Boston Scientific Corp., Natick, MA, agreed to purchase Rhythmia Medical, Inc., Burlington, MA, which develops mapping and navigation solutions for use in cardiac catheter ablations.

ITW Medical Products, Hebron, IL, a division of Illinois Tool Works Inc., completed the purchase of Coeur Holding Co., a provider of disposable medical products used in diagnostic imaging.

Edwards Lifesciences Corp., Irvine, CA, has completed the acquisition of BMEYE B.V., a privately held company based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, that specializes in non-invasive technology for advanced hemodynamic monitoring.
