Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is emerging as a transformative modality in the field of electrophysiology, offering potential for increased safety and efficacy in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. In his keynote today, Dr. Alex Hill, senior engineering director, cardiac ablation solutions at Medtronic, explores the multifaceted journey of Medtronic’s PFA systems, beginning with the foundational research that shaped its development.
Key advancements in engineering and clinical studies will be highlighted, demonstrating the potential improvements of PFA compared to traditional ablation techniques. In addition, the session will provide a glimpse into the pipeline of future products that aim to expand the scope and impact of PFA in electrophysiology.
Dr. Hill joined Medtronic in 2003, serving as an animal model consultant, anatomist, and developing techniques for infarct assessment using MRI. He joined the structural heart team in 2006, working in transcatheter valve research and development for 10 years. In 2011, he was named a technical fellow at Medtronic for his expertise and leadership in cardiac anatomy and device characterization, specifically utilizing non-invasive imaging. In 2015, he was awarded a fellowship in the Bakken Society, Medtronic’s highest technical honor.
