The 954 electrically heated 2,000 °F inert atmosphere heavy-duty box furnace from Grieve Corporation (Round Lake, IL) is used for heat treating titanium. 57 KW are installed in nickel chrome wire coils, supported by vacuum-formed ceramic fiber, to heat the load. Workspace dimensions are 30" wide x 48" deep x 30" high. The 7"-thick insulated walls comprise 5" of 2,300 °F ceramic fiber and 2" of 1,700 °F ceramic fiber, while the 61⁄2" floor insulation comprises 41⁄2" of 2,300 °F firebrick and 2" of 1,200 °F block insulation.
