The DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson announced that Max Reinhardt has been named Worldwide President of DePuy Synthes Spine, Raynham, MA, a global leader in spinal care. He has been with the company since 2002, most recently as Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

Flambeau Medical Markets Group, Phoenix, AZ, which serves the contract manufacturing needs of the medical device industry, has appointed Mike Glynn as Director of Business Development. Flambeau Medical Markets Group was formed a year ago when Flambeau, a member of the Nordic Group of Companies Ltd., purchased Mastercraft Companies. In addition, Flambeau, Inc., Baraboo, WI, the parent company of Flambeau Medical Markets Group, is celebrating its 65th year in business.

Sophono, Inc., Boulder, CO, has named Richard Giancola as Vice President – Global Sales and Marketing, for the company, which is a medical device manufacturer specializing in implantable, bone conduction hearing devices.

Michael J. Dormer, former head of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices & Diagnostics, was named Chairman of the Board of Directors of EOS imaging, Paris, France, and Cambridge, MA, a pioneer in 2D/3D orthopedic medical imaging.

The National Space Biomedical Research Institute (NSBRI) has named Dr. Ralph Lydic as chair of its External Advisory Council. Lydic is the Bert La Du Professor of Anesthesiology at Michigan. NSBRI, funded by NASA, is a consortium of institutions studying the health risks related to long-duration spaceflight.

Intelligrated, Cincinnati, OH, a leading North American-based automated material handling solutions provider, has appointed Mike McCarthy to the position of sales account manager. He is responsible for supporting clients within the company’s distribution and fulfillment business.

Winland Electronics, Inc., has named David Gagne as its new CEO and director. Gagne joined the company earlier this year as an advisor to the board. Based in Mankato, MN, Winland provides critical condition monitoring devices.

Minneapolis, MN-based Urologix Inc.’s CEO Stryker Warren resigned at the end of November. Replacing him as interim CEO is Gregory Fluet, who has served as chief operating officer and executive vice president since 2008. Urologix develops minimally invasive medical products to treat obstruction and symptoms due to BPH.

Expansions/Moves

Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced its expansion with the addition of Samsung Health & Medical Equipment, unifying Samsung Medison America’s personnel into Samsung Electronics America’s Enterprise Business Division. By expanding its presence in the medical equipment industry, Samsung aims to become a global healthcare leader.

LeMaitre Vascular, Burlington, MA, a device maker for peripheral artery disease, will open a Toronto, Canada, office this month to serve as its Canadian headquarters.

Resonetics, Nashua, NH, a leading supplier of polymer micromachining services for the life sciences industry, has opened its Lightspeed ADL, an 8,000 sq. ft. operation focused exclusively on micromachining process development, prototyping, and pilot production. The lab will offer an array of laser technologies including excimer, DPSS, CO2, femtosecond, and picosecond workstations.

OFS, Norcross, GA, a leading edge designer, manufacturer, and supplier of innovative fiber optic network solutions, dedicated an OFS laboratory at Clemson University’s Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies (COMSET) in Clemson, SC. In recognition for OFS’ gift of optical and optoelectronic research equipment and related chemicals, Clemson will name one of its COMSET laboratories the OFS Laboratories Optics Industry Lab, where fiber optics research will be conducted in the University’s Advanced Materials Research Laboratory.

Mergers/Acquisitions/Collaborations

Baxter International, Inc., Deerfield, IL, which manufactures kidney dialysis equipment, drug infusion pumps, and blood therapy products, agreed to purchase privately held dialysis product company Gambro AB, Lund, Sweden, one of the largest makers of equipment for hemodialysis.

Laserage Technology Corporation, Waukegan, IL, a global contract manufacturing source for precision laser processing, has acquired a majority interest in Venta Medical LLC, a turn-key medical contract manufacturer located in Union City, CA.

Merit Medical Systems Inc., South Jordan, UT, a leading manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable medical devices, has acquired substantially all of the assets of Medigroup, Inc., a manufacturer of peritoneal dialysis catheters based in Oswego, IL.

Miscellaneous

FANUC FA America, Hoffman Estates, IL, the world's most diversified manufacturer of CNC systems, robots, and machine tools, was recently named a top innovator by both Forbes and Thomson Reuters in 2012. It was named to the lists of both Forbes 2012 "The World's Most Innovative Companies" and Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovators.

Matrox Imaging, Montreal, Canada, a leading developer of component-level solutions for machine vision, image analysis, and medical imaging, announced that the company has received the 2012 Global Frost & Sullivan Award for Customer Value Enhancement in Machine Vision Inspection.
