Micro Dryer
Dri-Air Industries, East Windsor, CT, has introduced a new dryer for plastics. The MicroDryer Series (MD) is line of compressed air dryers designed for very low throughputs. The series of dryers start with the MD-1 equipped with drying hoppers with a capacity of 1–3 lbs. and range up to the MD-3 with the largest capacity of 15 lbs. Low dewpoints, –40 °F and below, are possible because the dryer is equipped with a membrane and compressed air prefilter. The stainless-steel construction and glass hopper is ideal for medical molding with low throughputs or high-cost resins.

Linear Actuators
Thomson Industries, Downers Grove, IL, has added advanced controllability options to its Electrak ® LL line of long-life electric linear actuators. The actuators provide duty cycles of up to 100 percent, up to 600 km of travel life, and up to one million cycles. Direct absolute position information is possible by programming the actuator’s embedded microprocessor to count mechanical turns within the gearbox. This enables an instantaneous, exact reading of position for the use of advanced control logic.

Autoinjector Testing System
Instron, Norwood, MA, has released the next-generation Autoinjector Testing System for full functionality testing of pen and autoinjectors to ISO 11608. Developed in close partnership with pharmaceutical companies and CDMOs, this system measures a variety of essential performance requirements, including cap removal, dose accuracy, activation force, injection time, needle depth, and needle guard lockout. The addition of simple autoinjector test methods to the company’s Bluehill Universal software enables users to easily develop and change test methods.

Thermal Grease
More than 40 different thermally conductive greases are available from EpoxySet, Woonsocket, RI. The greases are both silicone based and silicone-free hydrocarbons. Systems contain various fillers to allow for thermal conductivity from 0.8 to 7.2 W/m°K. Most withstand temperatures up to about 200 °C continuously with some system rated for 360 °C. Many systems are designed to be low bleed to prevent any possible contamination. The greases are offered in 10 and 30 cc size syringes and cartridges as well as various bulk sizes.

Connector
Schurter, Santa Rosa, CA, has added two models to its line of 400 VDC connectors. The GC21 and GH21/GI21 are standardized according to IEC TS 62735-1. The GI21 model is designed for pure DC operation, while the GH21 is a hybrid version and can therefore accept both AC and DC current. The company also offers the rewireable GC21 Connector to match the appliance Inlets. A cord retention system developed from scratch ensures safe operation in everyday use. All three new products are made from a bio-based plastic (green plastic).

Linear Voice Coil Motors
Moticont, Van Nuys, CA, has released two 15.9 mm (0.625 in.) diameter linear voice coil motors. The LVCM-016-019-01M (metric) and the LVCM-016-019-01 (Imperial) miniature brushless high-speed linear servo motors have a 12.7 mm (0.5 in) long stroke and a high-force-to-size ratio of 1.7 N (6.1 oz). They have a peak force of 5.4 N (19.3 oz) at 10 percent duty cycle. The low inertia and high acceleration/deceleration miniature linear servo motors are efficient, clean, quiet, and have high accuracy and high repeatability when operated in a closed servo loop.

UV Laser
FOBA, Selmsdorf, Germany, has released an optimized V series, which, with the 4-W UV and 10-W green marking laser, offers higher performance and better precision than its predecessor models, but at a fraction of the size. The laser head is so compact that it can be integrated into the FOBA M1000 manual workstation. The smaller size makes it easier to integrate into existing production environments.

Solenoids
A series of low-profile pull type clapper solenoids from Magnetic Sensor Systems, Van Nuys, CA, (MSS) are just 0.54 in (13.8 mm). in diameter and 0.80 in (20.3mm). long. The overall extended length is 1.08 in (27.4 mm). The solenoids have ampere turns (windings) adjusted to meet the specific force and duty cycle requirements of an application. The compact solenoids have a captive 0.060 in (1.5 mm) (typical) stroke and can be operated at a variety of duty cycles (voltage dependent) and are ideal for medical dispensing.

MEMS Accelerometers
Mouser Electronics, Mansfield, TX, now stocks Bosch BMA530 and BMA580 accelerometers from Bosch. The two acceleration sensors are designed for space-constrained applications like wearables and hearables. Built-in features enable the BMA530 to track motion activities with a step counter that is especially suitable for wearables. At the same time, the BMA580 targets hearables with voice activity detection that features bone conduction. They offer a flexible set of connectivity options, including an I3C ® interface.
