Multichip Module

Seminex, Danvers, MA, has unveiled a high-power multichip module (MCM). The XCM laser module offers a 50 W package at 1470 nm. With a peak power of 72.8 W and the ability to achieve 55 W at 12 A, it is ideal for high- power medical device applications. It has an optical output power of 50 W and electrical power capacity of 220 W. The module operates at a drive current of 10 A and a drive voltage of 22 V. Other key features include high heat load resilience, a detachable fiber core, and optional features like a photodiode (PD) and thermistor to further enhance performance and functionality.

Additive Manufacturing

A new technology from Renishaw, West Dundee, FL, enables users of RenAM 500 series metal additive manufacturing (AM) systems to reduce build times by up to 50 percent. The TEMPUS™ technology uses advanced scanning algorithms that sequence the layer data in a way that maximizes productivity while maintaining part quality. The patented technology fires the lasers as the recoater is moving. The technology employs seamless communication between advanced software and hardware components to synchronize the system lasers with the powder recoater, removing up to nine seconds of build time from every layer. With builds frequently containing thousands of layers, this can reduce total build times by tens of hours.

Servo Drives

Applied Motion Products, Morgan Hill, CA, has introduced a servo series engineered for high machine performance, exceptional torque output, and precise control. The M5 servo drives implement accurate motor control algorithms. The drives support fast motion profiles, automatic error compensation, and troubleshooting aids to achieve high system throughput and minimize downtime. Power range is from 100 W to 3 kW. Incremental, absolute multi-turn magnetic, and optical encoder options are 17 to 26 bit.

Japanese Medical Plug

Interpower, Oskaloosa, IA, has launched a 12A/ 125 VAC hospital-grade power cord and cord set for Japan. With a Japanese hospital-grade plug on one end, and an IEC 60320 C13 connector on the opposite end of 1.25 mm² VCTF cable, the cord set is ready to use right out of the box. The newly designed plug offers more flexibility in manufacturing custom cord length and color options. The cord set has a Japanese PSE-approved plug bearing the “green dot.” Internal stainless steel clamp rings ensure conductor retention. The standard color is gray. Customized lengths and colors are available.

Open Frame Monitors

Premio, City of Industry, CA, has released a line of industrial-grade open-frame touch monitors. The plug-and-play FIO series is available in display sizes ranging from 15 to 27 in. The series maintains a slim profile up to ~40 mm (1.5 in.) in depth to enable seamless mounting integration into various environments without compromising display quality. Battery Connectors

Kyocera AVX, Fountain Inn, SC, has expanded its vertical-mate, 2.0-mm-pitch battery connectors with the addition of new seven-and eight-position models to satisfy customer demand for higher signal and current capabilities. These new additions also further expand its 9155 family of battery connectors. The 9155-800 Series feature a unique contact geometry that deflects cleanly when a module, mating connector, or PCB is vertically pushed into position, enabling full vertical engagement in pluggable modules without the risk of contact damage.

Electric Clamping System

Electric power clamps are available from Destaco, Auburn Hills, MI. Operating completely without compressed air, the plug-and-play 92 W power clamps set a new standard for efficient and environmentally friendly production operations. They reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. The control of the electric clamps is decentralized and attached directly to the production devices. The Pharma+™ retainers feature a patentpending lead-in ramp, creating a complete 360° compression. With an operating pressure of 80 psi (120 psi burst), these components are cleanroom molded from polyketone and suitable for several sterilization methods including gamma radiation, x-ray, and autoclaving. Motion Controller

A stored program motion control system controller from OES, Van Nuys, CA, is available as a desktop or 19-in. rack-mount system. The Allegra series can be configured for one, two, three, or four axes of motion. With the appropriate drivers selected, any combination of stepper motors, DC brush-type servo motors with quadrature incremental encoders, three-phase brushless DC servo motors with quadrature incremental encoders or Hall effect sensors, or voice coil motors with linear encoders can be controlled. The commands are written, loaded, and saved into the controller’s memory using the supplied IDE. The controller is capable of running the commands without need of the host.

Stepper Motor Linear Actuator

Thomson Industries, Inc., Downers Grove, IL, has released a rotating-nut stepper motor linear actuator (SMLA) with a rotary encoder as a standard option. SMLAs use a stepper motor and lead screw shaft to translate rotary motion to linear motion for all three configurations: linear actuator, rotating screw, and rotating nut. Previously, designers requiring positional monitoring on either the actuator or rotating screw configurations had to request a custom encoder assembly. SMLAs with pre-installed rotary encoders are available in all NEMA motor frame sizes and leadscrew thread forms.
