Leadership News
Miyachi Unitek Corp., Monrovia, CA, a leading manufacturer of welding equipment and laser systems, has appointed David Fawcett as President & CEO, after serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Miyachi Europe Corp. for the past two years.
Dow Corning, Midland, MI, appointed Eric Peeters as vice president for Dow Corning’s Electronics Solutions. Peeters takes over for James Helwick, who led the company’s electronics business since 2010. Helwick will now lead the Electronics innovation portfolio.

EOS of North America, Novi, MI, a leader in design-driven integrated e-Manufacturing solutions, has appointed Tim Morris as Vice President. He will manage sales/marketing, and oversee a family of companies including Advanced Laser Materials and Integra.
KYDEX, LLC, a Sekisui Chemical Group company, has appointed Mike Karr to Director of Operations. He previously served as the company’s North America Business Manager, and will be responsible for daily operations for the global plastic manufacturer.
DFINE, Inc., San Jose, CA, a developer of minimally invasive radiofrequency targeted therapies to treat vertebral pathologies, has appointed Bill McMullen as director of clinical development, radiofrequency ablation.
NxStage Medical, Inc., Lawrence, MA, named Todd M. Snell as senior vice president of quality assurance, regulatory and clinical affairs, for its innovative dialysis products.
Expansions
Teleflex Medical OEM, Raleigh, NC, a leader in custom extrusions, interventional catheters, and medical devices, has completed a renovation and expansion of its facility in Jaffrey, NH, with additional R&D facilities and a larger extrusion center.
Pulse Systems, Concord, CA, has recently completed a major expansion of its production facilities to house its growing Computer Numerical Control machining of small custom components for medical devices.
Specialty Manufacturing Inc., San Diego, CA, has completed an expansion of its manufacturing facility. The company provides full-service manufacture of medical enclosures, plastic thermoforming, pressure forming and twin sheet forming.
ZL Engineering Plastics Inc., Lenexa, KS, a leading manufacturer of high-quality thermoplastic stock shapes, has started up a new extrusion facility site for its extensive range of stock shape products. Previously, these were manufactured in Kaprun, Austria, by ZL Engineering Plastics’ parent company, Zell-Metall GmbH Engineering Plastics.
Valtronic Switzerland opened a new orthopedic production facility in the Valley de Joux. The new building will host production, finishing, control, receipt and storage capacities and provide finishing services and equipment for medical implant-grade plastics.
Mergers/Acquisitions/Collaborations
ConvaTec, Skillman, NJ, with business units in ostomy care, wound therapeutics, continence and critical care, and infusion devices, agreed to buy 180 Medical Holdings, Oklahoma City, OK, a leading provider of catheters, urologic, and disposable medical supplies.
Millar Instruments, Inc., Houston, TX, which produces medical devices for the cardiovascular and neurocritical care markets, announced the completion of its merger with Telemetry Research Ltd., Auckland, New Zealand. The Auckland office will operate under New Zealand registry as a wholly owned subsidiary.
Owens & Minor, Inc., Mechanicsville, VA, has bought the Movianto Group, Stuttgart, Germany, a leading European third-party logistics firm for pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Movianto provides warehousing, transportation, repackaging and relabeling of products in 11 European countries.
Contour Energy Systems, Inc., Azusa, CA, an innovator of next-generation battery systems, announced a merger with Austin, TX-based ActaCell Energy Systems. Contour offers advanced non-rechargeable batteries and will add its new subsidiary’s power cell rechargeable technology.
IPG Photonics Corp., Oxford, MA, a leader in high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers, has acquired J.P. Sercel Associates Inc., Manchester, NH, a global supplier of UV excimer and diode pumped solid state industrial laser micromachining systems for precision processing in high-volume manufacturing.
The Watermill Group, Lexington, MA, a private investment firm, has acquired two manufacturers specializing in high-precision metal tubing: Fine Tubes Ltd., Plymouth, UK, and Superior Tube Co., Inc., Collegeville, PA. Both Fine Tubes and Superior Tube manufacture specialized metal tubes for medical device applications.
