Medical Murray Inc., North Barrington, IL, a leader in designing, developing, and manufacturing highly specialized catheters and intricate components used for minimally invasive procedures, is celebrating its 20-year anniversary. This year, the company purchased a 44,000 square foot facility inLake Zurich, IL, to provide additional manufacturing services including assembly, packaging, sterilization, and distribution.
MTD Micro Molding, Charlton, MA, a long-time leader in micro-injection molding for the medical device industry, will be adding two 20-ton Sodick molding presses with ancillary equipment to the existing Class 8 certified cleanrooms, including full automation and in-line inspection. In addition, MTD has purchased a new coordinate measuring machine and a high-speed milling machine to support its in-house tooling department.
Cadence, Inc., Plymouth, MA, a single source contract manufacturing partner, announced plans to enhance cleanroom capabilities to expand support for medical device and life science customers. Plans include the addition of a Class 8 cleanroom in Plymouth, and the expansion of the existing Class 8 cleanroom in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The expansion efforts, expected to be completed in early May, also create dedicated space for cleanroom assembly and automation.
Gordon Brush, a manufacturer offering more than 15,000 industrial and specialty brushes, recently moved its headquarters from Commerce, CA, to a new 183,000 sq. ft. headquarters and manufacturing facility in City of Industry, CA. In addition, the company adopted a new logo.
Teleflex, Wayne, PA, which specializes in products and services for vascular access, respiratory care, general and regional anesthesia, cardiac care, urology, and surgery, is closing its facility in Berks County, PA, and relocating 360 jobs in the process. Approximately 170 manufacturing jobs will be relocated to facilities in Mexico and the Czech Republic, while 130 R&D and quality engineering jobs will be relocated to a new location somewhere in the area, and the remaining 60 employees will be relocated to Teleflex facilities in Wayne and in Morrisville, NC.
Baxter International, Inc., Deerfield, IL, which provides a broad portfolio of essential renal and hospital products, announced that it will shut downan Englewood, CO, facility over the next 12 months, impacting approximately 400 employees.
General Electric, Fairfield, CT,the world’s largest digital industrial company, has opened a new “flagship center for additive manufacturing,” to develop and implement industrial products and technologies for all the various GE businesses. The new Center for Additive Technology Advancement, Findlay Township, PA, is a $39-million project that will employ 50 engineers ranging in their disciplines from mechanical and electrical design to systems and software engineering.
CeQur, Marlborough, MA, which is is developing and commercializing insulin delivery devices for diabetes, is doubling the size of its Marlborough facility in preparation for the launch of its three-day insulin infusion device. When completed later this year, the facility will include a new cleanroom, labs, and a manufacturing line. The company plans to hire 100 additional employees over the next 24 months.
