UMF Corporation, Skokie, IL, a developer of infection prevention products, announced that David A. Roberson has joined the company as Director of Healthcare National Accounts.

IPG Photonics Corporation, Oxford, MA, a world leader in high-power fiber lasers and amplifiers, announced three senior management appointments focused on strengthening the company's worldwide sales and marketing efforts. Trevor Ness has been promoted to Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Marketing and will continue to supervise the Asian operations. David Gray was appointed Vice President - Strategic Development & Systems Solutions, and Yuri Erokhin was appointed Vice President-Strategic Marketing.

Eniware LLC, a Washington DC-based provider of portable, power-independent medical instrument sterilization, announced that Michael Steele, the former Chairman of the Republican National Committee, and co-founder of Purple Nation Solutions, has joined its board of directors. Eniware’s patented technology provides portable, power-free, and affordable sterilization of medical instruments in low-resource settings such as the developing world, disaster zones, and in combat arenas.

Natus Medical Inc., San Carlos, CA, has named Jonathan Kennedy, former Chief Financial Officer of Intersil Corp., to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Cerapedics, Inc., Westminster, CO, announced that Antony Koblish, president and CEO of privately-held Tela Bio, Inc. and former CEO of Orthovita, Inc., was appointed to the Cerapedics board of directors.

AtriCure, Inc., West Chester, OH, a medical device company and a leader in cardiac surgical ablation systems to treat atrial fibrillation, announced that Robert “Bob” S. White has been appointed to the company’s board of directors.

Mouser Electronics, Inc., Mansfield, TX, a top design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, has hired Jeff Newell as Senior Vice President of Products, Actives and Passives. He will oversee active and passive product categories, including semiconductors, embedded solutions, development tools, optoelectronic, LEDs, and lighting.

Expansions/Moves

Integrated Technologies Limited (ITL), Kent, UK, a contract designer, developer, and manufacturer specializing in medical, diagnostic, analytical, precision electro-mechanical, and laboratory instrumentation, will open its first US office in Hanover, VA, and will start business in the US as ITL (Virginia) Inc. on May 1, 2013. ITL is one of the few independent European product design and manufacturing companies.

Kollmorgen, Boxborough, MA, a leading provider of motion systems and components for OEMs, in an effort to support and accelerate growth in medical segments, has established a dedicated new business unit, known as Kollmorgen Medical & Lab Automation, focused on providing automation solutions for applications in: diagnostic imaging, in vitro diagnostics, therapeutic devices, life sciences, surgical automation, and implantable devices.

HD Medical Inc., Santa Clara, CA, a recently formed medical device research and development innovator, announced the launch of US business operations on March 6. This new company is delivering diagnostic technologies and products to the US market beginning with its flagship product, the ViScope Visual Stethoscope.

MicroVention, Inc., Tustin, CA, which makes devices to treat cerebral aneurysms and other neurovascular diseases, has opened a manufacturing facility in San Jose, Costa Rica, marking the company’s first location outside of the US.

Mergers/Acquisitions/Collaborations

Noxilizer, Inc., Baltimore, MD, announced that it has acquired SAIAN Corporation, Wakayama-shi, Japan. Both companies are involved in developing nitrogen dioxide as a sterilization solution for pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies, as well as hospitals.

Invivo, Gainesville, FL, a Philips Healthcare Business, and a worldwide leader in MRI, and iCAD, Inc., a leading provider of advanced imaging and radiation therapy technologies for the detection and treatment of cancer, announced that the companies have entered into a global research, development, and commercial agreement. Under the agreement, iCAD will develop advanced MRI image analysis software products that Invivo will incorporate into its suite of MRI product solutions for global commercial sale. The initial focus of the partnership will be the release of a next generation platform for prostate and breast imaging.

Histogen Inc., San Diego, CA, a regenerative medicine company developing solutions based on the products of cells grown under simulated embryonic conditions, has partnered with a Southern California medical device executive management and investment group to establish PUR Biologics, LLC, Orange County, CA. PUR is a joint venture focused on the emerging field of biologics for musculoskeletal conditions, including spine, dental and medical device applications.

Nordson MARCH, Concord, CA, a global leader in plasma processing technology, received the New Product Introduction (NPI) Award from Printed Circuit Design & Fab magazine for its FlexVIA™ Plasma System, a completely self-contained vacuum plasma system designed for maximum efficiency and cost-effective etch, de-smear, and surface activation treatment of flexible printed circuit boards (PCBs).

Nordson ASYMTEK, Carlsbad, CA, a leader in dispensing, coating, and jetting technologies, has received both the Service Excellence Award (SEA) and the New Product Introduction (NPI) Award from Circuits Assembly magazine at IPC APEX 2013, San Diego, CA, on February 19, 2013. This is the 9th time in the 10-year history of the Service Excellence Awards that Nordson ASYMTEK has won. The NPI Award was presented to Nordson ASYMTEK for its new NexJet® System with its Genius™ Jet Cartridge.

Keithley Instruments, Inc., Solon, OH, a leader in advanced electrical test instruments and systems, announced that Electronic Products magazine named the company’s new Parametric Curve Tracer (PCT) Configurations as a “Product of the Year” award winner for 2012 in the test and measurement category.

Littelfuse, Inc., Chicago, IL, a global leader in circuit protection, has been honored with a 2012 Gold Level Supplier Excellence Award from TTI Americas. This is the fourth consecutive year Littelfuse has received the Supplier Excellence Award and the first year it has achieved gold level status. In addition, the company has been honored with two awards from TTI Asia: the 2012 Silver-Level Supplier Excellence Award and the 2012 Best Quality Award. This is the third consecutive year Littelfuse has received a TTI Asia Supplier Excellence Award and the first year it has reached silver-level status.

Four individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the plastics industry will be honored by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) at next month’s SPE ANTEC® 2013 in Cincinnati, OH. They are: Dr. Robert R. Gallucci, Chief Scientist with SABIC Innovative Plastics in Mt. Vernon, IN, who will receive the Research/Engineering Technology Award. In his more than 36-year plastics career, he has developed many new thermoplastic products, often using extruder chemistry and polymer blend compatibilization, and holds more than 100 US patents.

Dr. Robert Y. Lochhead, who will receive the Education Award, joined the University of Southern Mississippi in 1990 and has chaired the Department of Polymer Science since 1993. He is Director of the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials at USM, and the author of 300 scientific papers and 22 patents, some for polymers that are used extensively in topical delivery of therapeutics and in cosmetics.

Business Management Award winner Tim G. Taylor, currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Commercial, Marketing, Transportation, and Business Development at Phillips 66.

The International Award honoring an individual’s lifetime achievement will be presented to Dr. Benny Freeman, the Robert B. Curran Centennial Chair in Chemical Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, who has made important contributions in engineering, research, service, and education involving polymer membranes for low-energy gas and liquid separations.
