Software Tracker Module

Instron, Norwood, MA, has released a module in Bluehill Central that is designed to accelerate data analysis workflow of single or multi-location materials testing laboratories. The TrendTracker includes an intuitive interface that enables operators to quickly search, display, and analyze results over time and across multiple samples and test systems. Frames can automatically send test results to a centralized database to be viewed in Bluehill Central. The module’s statistical process control (SPC) tools make it easier to identify and remediate inconsistencies in a manufacturing process. Customizable searches query the database for data and display it using sortable tables and a variety of control charts.

Environmental Particle Counter

Triplett Test Equipment, Manchester, NH, has released a compact and portable tool for indoor air quality (IAQ) testing in cleanroom and other sensitive applications. Model EPC600 Environmental Particle Counter can simultaneously measure six channels of particle sizes down to 0.3 μm of methane, propane, butane, ammonia, carbon monoxide, and many other substances. It can also measure air temperature, humidity, dew point, and wet bulb. It features a 2.8-in. color thin-film-transistor (TFT) display. A built-in camera (320 × 240) captures both JPEG images and 3GP video and can store up to 5000 records with date/time, counts, temperature, humidity, sample volume, alarms, and location label.

2D Measurement System

Exact Metrology, Brookfield, WI, offers a 2D inspection machine that allows manufacturers to verify product quality simply and quickly by performing 2D inspection, CAD comparisons, and reverse engineering in seconds. The InspecVision Planar system requires minimal operator input. Applications include flat and folded/formed sheet metal components, gaskets and seals, laminations, O-rings, paper acetate and electronic drawings, and other opaque and semi-transparent flat materials. Existing parts can be reverse engineered quickly, creating dxf or dwg CAD files. The software allows users to edit and clean data such as standardization of hole sizes.

Video-Based Measurement Systems

L.S. Starrett, Athol, MA, offers videobased measurement systems that combine high-resolution images, intuitive software, and precision mechanical platforms. Automatic edge detection or video edge detection removes operator subjectivity in locating edges of parts being measured, enabling go/no-go comparisons to an engineering design, with no need for Mylar overlays. The HD400 Horizontal Dual Lens Comparator offers a two-lens mount, enabling instant switching between two magnification lenses or a video camera adapter. The recently enhanced AVR300 Multi-Sensor Vision System, features a large field of view (FOV) and is ideal for repetitive measurements and automatic comparison to CAD files.
