Curable Adhesive
A UV curable, non-cytotoxic adhesive from Master Bond, Hackensack, NJ, features optical clarity and abrasion resistance. In addition to bonding, UV15X-6Med-2LV can also be used for sealing, coating, and encapsulating. The one-part system has a high degree of flexibility with an elongation that exceeds 100 percent and a low tensile modulus of 20,000–50,000 psi at room temperature. It can withstand extreme thermal cycling and mechanical shock without inducing stress on components. It bonds well to similar and dissimilar substrates including glass, metals, and plastics. It cures upon exposure to a UV light source emitting at a wavelength of 320–365 nm with an energy output as low as 20–40 mW/cm2.

Voice Coil Motor
Moticont, Van Nuys, CA has introduced a new miniature voice coil motor. The LVCM-010-013-01 measures 0.375 in. (9.5 mm) in diameter, and the length at mid-stroke is 0.81 in. (20.7 mm) long. The motor has a high force-to-size ratio with a continuous force of 1.0 oz (0.28 N), a peak force of 3.2 oz (0.88 N), and a 0.25 in. (6.4 mm) stroke. The clean brushless DC linear servo motor, which has high acceleration and deceleration and low inertia, is ideal for haptic feedback in medical/surgical instruments. The miniature linear motor has a 2-56 UNC-2B threaded mounting hole in the housing and a 2-56 UNC-2B threaded mounting hole in the coil end for easy integration into new and existing applications.

Thermoelectric Cooler
Laird Thermal Systems, Durham, NC, offers a high-capacity liquid-to-air thermoelectric cooler assembly with 400 W of cooling power to refrigerate medium to large medical diagnostic chambers. Designed to control the temperature of a liquid circulating loop, the SuperCool Series SLA-400 provides the highest cooling capacity in the industry for its size. Measuring just 17.4 × 17.4 × 29.1 cm, the compact thermoelectric cooler assembly utilizes the Peltier effect to cool well below ambient temperatures. Liquid-to-air units offer options for space-constrained applications by allowing the cooling unit to be moved to a location where space is available.

Coaxial Adapters
Delta Electronics, Beverly, MA, has introduced a line of color-coded adapters designed to work with coaxial connectors operating across frequency ranges from DC to 110 GHz. The adapters mate different combinations of male (plugs) and female (jacks) coaxial connectors at microwave through millimeter-wave frequencies for measurement setups that require regular interconnections between a device under test (DUT) and the test equipment. The adapters fit different combinations of 2.92-mm connectors (DC to 40 GHz), 2.40-mm connectors (DC to 50 GHz), 1.85-mm connectors (DC to 65 GHz), and 1.00-mm connector interfaces (DC to 110 GHz).

PFOA-Free Membranes
Porex, Fairburn, GA, offers PFOA-free membranes to address ongoing concerns around potentially harmful perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and PFOA-related compounds. POREX Virtek® PTFE is a 100 percent pure PTFE membrane. Oxyphen’s Unique-Mem® and RoTrac® are fiber-based membranes. Virtek PTFE features an intricate network of open-celled, omnidirectional pores that enable critical passage of small molecules while being naturally hydrophobic. Oxyphen’s hydrophobic track-etched membranes provide precise control over both pore size and pore density. The fiber-based membranes are ultra-hydrophobic for macro-venting applications.

DC Power Supplies
XP Power, Singapore, has released a series of rack-mount programmable DC power supplies.
There are five units in the PLS1500 series, offering DC output voltages of 30, 50, 100, 200, and 400 V — all with a 1500-W power rating. Up to four units can be connected in parallel for higher power (6 kW) and up to two connected in series for higher voltage (up to 800 V) and power.
Digital rotary controls on the front panel provide convenient adjustment of the output voltage and current. All models are certified to IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1 (EN/UL/CSA) safety standards.

Laser System
Marposs, Auburn Hills, MI, has launched a laser measuring system for diameter control and flaw detection of opaque or transparent extruded products such as glass pipes and medical tubing. The Aeroel Extruline system features on-line diameter measurement and automatically prevents the production of out-of-tolerance products by detecting and locating diameter flaws all along the product’s length. Its non-contact technology enables the measurement of moving products without damage. The systems can measure diameter and ovality of stock from 0.05 (0.00196) to 149 mm (5.86 in.) using either a single or dual axis (XY) laser gauge.
