Voice Coil Motor

A new, higher continuous force, higher peak force linear voice coil motor is available from Moticont, Van Nuys, CA. The LVCM-070-089-03 motor has been added to the company's series of 2.750 in. (69.9 mm) diameter x 3.50 in. (88.9 mm) long (housing) voice coil motors. The linear voice coil motor features 40.86 lb (181.5 N) continuous force and 129.1 lb (573.4 N) peak force. According to the company, the motor is clean, quiet, and efficient, and offers low inertia, and high acceleration. The brushless high-speed linear motor has zero cogging and features high accuracy and a high repeatability to less than 1μm (0.00004 in.) when operated in a closed loop as a DC servo motor.

Closed Loop Actuator

Applied Motion Products, Watsonville, CA, has introduced a closed-loop linear actuator that offers greater acceleration rates, shorter move times and higher throughput than conventional step motor-based linear actuators. Creating peak torques up to 50 percent higher than holding torque, TBSM11 linear actuator accelerates and decelerates faster, making them ideal for high throughput processes that require linear actuators to start and stop quickly. Based on closed loop technology, the actuator only draws current when needed to run cooler and more quietly than conventional step motor-based linear actuators.

Microstepping Motor Driver

US Digital, Vancouver, WA, has released a microstepping motor driver. The programmable MD3 is capable of driving motors from NEMA size 14 to 42. It accepts 9-50 VDC power inputs and is rated for currents up to 7 A continuous duty. In addition to digital input controls, the driver can be configured and controlled using the open MODBUS RTU protocol over a RS-485 bus. A GUI application is supplied that allows many settings to be changed including the number of microsteps per full step, acceleration/deceleration rates, speed, and current cutback.

Motorized Rotary Stage

Optimal Engineering Systems, Van Nuys, CA, offers a high-precision, low-profile, compact motorized rotary stage. The AY110-100-SC precision stage is 1.772 in. (45 mm) high, and the footprint is only 4.764 x 6.693 in. (121 x 170 mm). The stage has a pattern of threaded mounting holes in the rotary table and holes in the base for easy integration into new and existing applications. The diameter of the table is 3.937 in. (100 mm), and the range of travel is a full 360° and is capable of continuous rotation. The table is driven by a 180:1 worm gear at up to 14° per second and has a resolution of 0.0001° with a 10 micro-step-per-step stepper motor driver.

Hydraulic Actuator

A hydraulic actuator is available from Kyntronics, Cleveland, OH. The patentpending SMART Hydraulic Actuator (SHA) offers power on demand. The actuator is servo-controlled and has variable speed actuation. The new actuation technology combines the advantages of hydraulics and electromechanical servo technology in a scalable, modular assembly. The actuation system precisely controls position, force, and speed in applications requiring from 500 lb (2,225 N) to over 100,000 lb (445 kN) of force capacity.
