Extrusion Crosshead

Guill Tool & Engineering, West Warwick, RI, has introduced a crosshead with mechanically assisted gum space (MAGS) adjustment.

The 500 Series is designed specifically for the flow characteristics and unique processing challenges of elastomeric compounds. The MAGS method of gum space adjustment allows the operator to make an effortless adjustment from a single point using a common socket wrench, which leads to faster adjustments. The visual indicator on the core tube allows the operator to see how far the gum space has been moved, making those adjustments much more accurate and repeatable.

Spring-Engaged Brakes

Nexen Group, Inc., Vadnais Heights, MN, has released a new spring-engaged brake family. The pneumatically released Zero-Backlash Spring Engaged (ZSE) brake offers high torque, high speed, and zero backlash ideal for holding applications. Unlike brakes using leaf springs to transmit torque, the ZSE is zero-backlash up to 100 percent of its rated holding torque. Four different sizes (450, 600, 800, 1000) are available for a wide variety of applications. The bore sizes are available in three standard sizes and can be easily customized for customer needs. The ZSE brakes are available with internal sensors, making them ideal for Industry 4.0 compatibility. These sensors provide feedback and data to maximize machine safety and efficiency.

Guidewire and Tubing Feeding System

Glebar, Ramsey, NJ, has developed a stand-alone version of its guidewire and vacuum feeding technology. The stand-alone device can seamlessly connect and feed parts into existing third-party or Glebar grinders. An upgraded control system and 7-in. color HMI enable simple and easy access to all aspects of feeder operation. The feeder allows multiple modes of operation, including a completely stand-alone cycling mode that doesn't require any signals from a grinder. The system is designed to feed long products, such as guidewires, catheter bodies, and metal tubing to secondary process devices like laser marking or stamping machines, into any machine, printer etc.
