Harwin, Salem NH, has released a surface-mount socket designed to provide superior pin retention and durability for high-volume applications manufactured using advanced automated systems. Sycamore’s design features three points of contact, providing the assurance of continuity and robustness previously only available from two-piece assemblies that are rarely available on tape and reel. The single-part SMT socket design features a low profile of only 0.3 mm above the PCB. Available in top and bottom entry versions, it accepts 1.0 or 1.50 mm diameter pins and is open ended, so mating pin depth is not limited. Manufactured from beryllium copper, contacts are gold-plated to ensure high conductivity and durability over a temperature range of −50° to +125 °C.

UL-Recognized Labels

Computer Imprintable Label Systems Limited (CILS), Burlington, MA, has a launched a range of durable, printable blank labels that enable customers to print their own UL-recognized component labels. The durable label range includes 30 different materials that have been tested and recognized by Underwriters Laboratories under the UL 969 Marking and Labeling Systems standard. The labels are ready for intended use on components sold in both the United States (PGJI2) and Canada (PGJI8). The labels eliminate the need for a product or component to be submitted to UL for label durability testing after the label has been applied, saving time and avoiding the associated fees.

Braid-Reinforced Silicone Hose

Platinum-cured for purity and made without plasticizers, a braid-reinforced silicone hose is available from NewAge Industries, Southampton, PA. Silbrade® Platinum is nonreactive to body tissues and fluids and will not support bacteria growth. The hose is kink resistant yet highly flexible for close-in bending. It withstands temperatures between −100 and 400 °F (−73 and 204 °C). The silicone hose contains no phthalates or BPA. Its raw materials meet FDA requirements and are NSF-51 listed. It is made in the United States.

MEMS Pressure Sensor

Pewatron, Zurich, Switzerland, offers a new generation of Fujikura MEMS pressure sensors. The A series is based on a two-chip concept (sensor die plus ASIC). For these sensors, accuracy or the maximum error is defined as the maximum deviation from the expected measured value over the entire pressure and temperature range. The sensor, which by default is specified with ±1.5 percent FS, is also available in a ±0.5 percent version. Test models and prototypes are available.

The Fredericks Company, Huntingdon Valley, PA, has released a vacuum controller with Ethernet IP (EIP). The TELEVAC MX200, which includes USB/RS-232/RS-485 standard on every unit, can interface directly with Rockwell Automation® Allen-Bradley® Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). The EIP module uses an industry recognized and precertified HMS Anybus® CompactCom™ device to handle the network interface. As a modular unit, the MX200 system allows users to choose a vacuum-sensing solution specific to their needs.

Potting/Casting Material

A flame-resistant potting/casting material is available from epoxySet, Lincoln, RI. The UC-2524 potting material yields very low cure stress as well as high-impact resistance over a temperature range of −55 to 130 °C. The urethane material is thermally conductive and meets the requirements of UL-94-VO. The low-viscosity system can be cured at room temperature or with heat. With a 100 °C cure, it can be demolded in 20 minutes. It has a minimum work time of 60 minutes with an easy 1:5 by volume mix ratio, which is ideal for use in dispensing equipment.
