The 10th annual “Create the Future” Design Contest, attracted more than 950 innovative product ideas from engineers and students in 65 countries. The Medical category itself received 92 outstanding entries from 21 countries.

Winners were selected in late September from the seven categories: Consumer Products, Electronics, Medical, Machinery & Equipment, Safety & Security, Sustainable Technologies, and Transportation. The grand prize winner receives $20,000, while the first-place winner in each category will receive a Hewlett-Packard workstation computer. Two entries from the Medical category were among the top 10 vote recipients from among all registered on the site and those 10 will each receive a SpaceMouse Pro 3D Mouse from 3DConnexion.

In addition to the winners and runners-up listed here, there were a number of entries in other categories with medical applications, such as a variable position wheelchair as well as a modular one with a wardrobe of different wheels entered in the transportation category, a body cooling/warming vest that stabilizes the core body temperature of the wearer in the consumer products category, an oral pathology device to detect bacterial/viral antigenic molecules in the safety & security category, and many more. Most of the entrants listed here had never entered the contest before. The top 100 entries receive a Certificate of Achievement.

The contest was established to recognize and reward engineering innovations that benefit humanity, the environment, and the economy. The top prize winners will be honored at an awards reception in New York City this month. Congratulations to all who entered. All of the entries can be seen at http://contest.techbriefs.com .
