With support from the National Science Foundation, Professor Perena Gouma and her team at New York's Stony Brook University have developed a sensor chip coated with nanowires that is able to detect minute amounts of chemical compounds in the breath. The Single Breath Disease Diagnostics Breathalyzer, when blown into, can test a person for a biomarker - a sign of disease. Researchers envision developing the technology such that a number of different tests can be performed with a single device.
