The three-legged stool of medical device innovation requires great technical capability, of course, but also a deep understanding of the related medicine (anatomy, pathology, procedural knowledge, outcomes, standard of care, clinical trials), and the business of innovation (patents, fundraising, management, strategy). At MD&M West’s keynote on April 13, Stanton Rowe, CEO, NXT Biomedical, will examine these elements through the story of TAVR.

Rowe will discuss the twists and turns of technology challenges, patents, difficult fundraising, difficult regulators, and tough strategic choices. Specifically, he will address how to think about customer needs when customers do not know what they need as well as innovation roadblocks — some are technical, some are market-related. Finally, he will talk about how to know the the customer you serve and how this drives decisions about strategy.
