Thermal Cycling Calculator

The Calculator is an online simulation tool for PCR thermal cycling applications.

Laird, Durham, NC, has launched an online simulation tool for PCR thermal cycling applications. Thermoelectric coolers designed for thermal cycling, such as the PowerCycling PCX Series, are used for real-time PCR to precisely temperature control DNA amplification to three temperature set points. Selecting the right thermoelectric cooler for thermal cycling can be a difficult process for any design engineer. Using the web-based simulation tool, design engineers can input known attributes such as geometry constraints, desired setpoint temperatures, and thermal mass on control side to estimate required heat pumping capacity needed to achieve specific ramp rates.

Micro Pump

The i-FILL® micro pump

Intellitech, Saint Petersburg, FL, has released a new micro pump designed for precision liquid dispensing. The i-FILL® micro pump provides precise, repeatable dispensing of 100 mcl to 15 ml with single stroke capacity and larger volumes are possible with multiple strokes. The micro pump delivers repeatable liquid filling accuracy ±5 percent of the intended volume. It is designed to pump dry and does not drip between dispensing batches. As an alternative to peristaltic pump technology, the pump design, which is a hybrid of a diaphragm and piston pump, is gentler and more reliable when dispensing biologics or specialty chemicals
