Single-Phase Filters

KEMET, Fort Lauderdale, FL, has launched a new series plastic box single-phase filters. The GTX filters suppress excess electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated from power lines within 250 VAC single-phase electrical systems. The filter contains a nanocrystalline core, which offers higher permeability and lower losses than ferrite material cores. The nanocrystalline core allows for a compact, lightweight, and high-density design resulting in high attenuation capability and small volumetric package. The series offers five rated current ranges (6–30 A), which can be paired with six Class-Y capacitors.

Sleep Tracking Sensor

A sleep tracking sensor from TE Connectivity, Anaheim, CA, monitors vital signs including respiratory rate, heart rate, and other parameters like body motion and bed exit. It requires no external power or bias voltage and enables continuous monitoring without disturbing the user. The sensor is manufactured with PVDF film, and when placed onto a mattress, it monitors vital signs and provides comprehensive sleep data for more precise sleep quality analysis. The non-contact sleep sensor can be combined with a bedside sleep monitor, smartphone, and web-based app to help track and better understand sleep patterns and create personalized feedback and suggestions to help improve sleep.

Electroplated Grinding Wheels

Saint Gobain Abrasives, Worcester, MA has introduced electroplated grinding wheels for high-precision applications. An innovative design and manufacturing process give the Norton Winter AEON wheels the ability to hold an extremely tight profile tolerance of ±5 μm at a maximum wheel diameter of ~24 in. (600 mm) and width ~12 in. (300 mm), weighing up to 551 lbs (250 kg). The wheels have a single usable abrasive layer design, with diamond or cBN particles mechanically fixed onto the core surface by an electrochemical process of nickel deposition. This unique layer design provides high grit retention levels for long wheel life.

Static-Reducing Compounds

Clariant Plastics & Coatings Healthcare Polymer Solutions, Muttenz, Switzerland, has launched static-reducing functional plastic compounds that, when used in drug-delivery devices, enable increased dose reliability. The resins are part of the wider medical-grade MEVOPUR® line of color and additive concentrates and ready-to-use polymer compounds, covering polymers from PE to PEEK. The permanent antistatic compounds reduce surface resistivity and dissipate charges quickly, thereby eliminating sticking. The line significantly reduces the risk of potential leachables by using pretested ingredients that support compliance to medical and pharmaceutical standards such as ISO10993 and USP Class VI. Applications include transparent plastic spacer accessories used with metered-dose inhalers.
