SPC Software

Zontec, Inc., Cincinnati, OH, has released new statistical process control (SPC) software designed to improve manufacturing quality. The Synergy 1000™ and Synergy 1000+ version 10.0 enable users to instantly see quality data in straightforward color-coded charts with actionable metrics. It identifies sources of process variation allowing users to decide whether an undesirable shift in the numbers needs attention to avoid producing defective parts that result in scrap and rework. Features include new enhanced toolbar graphics and a new menu as well as a first-pass quality report for visibility into the rate of nonconforming production during a designated run, date and time, batch number, and/or another traceable item.

Brushless DC Motor Drives

Minarik Drives, South Beloit, IL, has introduced a new family of configurable controls for brushless DC motors. MDBL drives control motors ranging from 90 to 280 VDC, up to 5 A/1.5 HP, using either 115 or 230 VAC line sources. Onboard trim pots allow operators to quickly set minimum/maximum speeds, acceleration/deceleration rates, and motoring and regening current limits, as well as the proportional and integral feedback gains. An onboard microprocessor allows for custom programming. The drive integrates PLC-like functionality into operations. Controls are positioning-application capable, with feedback sampling rates of 16 Khz.

Media Isolation Valves

Media isolation valves from Clippard, Cincinnati, OH, are solenoid-operated devices that use a flexible diaphragm to isolate the actuation mechanism from the fluid path. All wetted areas of the valve are PTFE, making this series ideal for use with corrosive media. The valves feature a one-piece valve stem that functions as a sealing membrane while also supporting and centralizing the poppet in the seating area. This multi-functional poppet/diaphragm/stem results in a simplified design with fewer parts, longer life, and zero dead volume.

Electrical Safety App

Rigel Medical, Peterlee, UK, has launched a companion phone app to its Rigel 288+ electrical safety analyzer to help clinical engineers performing electrical safety tests in the field. The Downloader app allows field service engineers using the analyzer to create and upload digital test records. Users can remotely attach their test records to a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or send them to a central database. These tests play a vital role as they highlight faults with medical equipment in hospitals and healthcare facilities, picking up on issues that can compromise patient safety. The app is designed to help engineers complete tests more quickly and efficiently.
