H2W, Santa Clarita, CA, has developed a compact linear induction motor that can generate 10.6 lb [47 N] at a 15 percent duty cycle. Operating at 208 VAC 3-phase 60 Hz, the synchronous velocity of the LMAA-04-01 is 160 in./sec [4 m/s]. The LIM was designed for highspeed operation; however, it can also be operated at stall (zero speed) to produce static thrust. The motor is encapsulated using high-temperature 350 °F [176 °C] potting compound, which protects the components and seals it from moisture.
