Connectors

LEMO, Rohnert Park, CA, has redesigned the outer shell of its S Series with the company’s “chocolate block” look. The S Series uses the half-moon insert configuration and is fully compatible with the existing S Series connectors. Both the straight plug and free receptacle now use the same collet as the company’s B Series, offering a slightly different cable range than the previous S Series. The S Series is available in sizes 0S, 1S, and 2S for cables ranging from 1.4 to 9.9 mm and offers multipole contacts from 2 to 10, as well as unipole, coax, triax, and multiconcentric configurations.

Plastisol Y Connectors

Qosina, Ronkonkoma, NY, offers a variety of Y connectors manufactured from plastisol, also known as liquid polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a material used to make flexible components. The connectors are produced through a dip-molding process rather than traditional injection molding. Plastisol is Class VI approved and BPA- and latex-free. Dip molding allows for production to be easily scaled. Both standard and universal plastisol Y connectors are available. The universal style can be cut to accommodate 3/32, 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 in. Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, Streamwood, IL, has expanded its wear ring range. An additional 180 part numbers in outer diameters from 1 to 12 in. are available for it HiMod® Slydring® HC wear rings. HiMod refers to a range of high-modulus plastic materials developed internally for applications demanding high wear and chemical resistance performance. The configuration of the HiMod Slydring HC absorbs transverse forces and prevents metal-to-metal contact between components.

TT Electronics, Woking, UK, has introduced a flyback transformer designed for use with Avago’s ACPL-32JT/302J IGBT chipset. With its high level of isolation, the HM210-05K060LFTR transformer is optimized for use in demanding industrial motor control and inverter applications. The transformer offers a higher saturation current capability and a lower leakage inductance performance, making it ideal for high-efficiency DC-DC applications where size is critical, and to ensure the performance and reliability levels that industrial applications demand. Power Supplies

A new medical switching power supply is available from Protek Power North America, Hudson MA. The PM651 Series of medical AC/DC switching power supplies is available in either U-channel style or enclosed with cover/fan. The enclosed version is 8 × 4 × 2.6 in. and can deliver up to 650 watts with 30 CFM forced air cooling. The u-channel version is 8 × 4 × 2.58 in. and delivers a maximum 380 W with convection cooling. The series accepts an input voltage range of 90–264 VAC and offers a choice of 12 single output models with voltages ranging from 12 to 58 VDC.

Rosette Strain Gage Pattern

Vishay Precision Group, Inc., Malvern, PA, has introduced a miniature rectangular planar rosette strain gage pattern for printed circuit board (PCB) testing. Offered in two unique strain gage designations (C5K-XX-S5198-350/33F and C5K-XX-S5198-350/39F), the Micro-Measurements S5198 pattern provides precise strain detection with minimized non-uniform PCA strain gradient effects, along with reliable operation to +200 °C. An industry best-in-class resistance specification of 350 Ω, as compared to the 120 Ω typical industry standard, reduces the unwanted self-heating and heat dissipation effects commonly found among substrates with poor heat conductivity.

A custom fixture from CleanCut Technologies, Anaheim, CA is designed to reduce assembly time and increase output for medical device manufacturers. The Easy Loading Fixture or “ELF” simultaneously releases retention elements on a backer card within seconds. Electronic Valves

Clippard, Cincinnati, OH, has released a new direct actuating valve designed to provide an extremely fast response time for accurate dosing of minute volumes. The EV line of electronic valves is now available in an 8-mm cartridge package. The valve was designed with a unique patented valving principle using the company’s robust stainless steel “spider,” with only one moving part that travels less than 0.007 in. Due to very low moving weights, the valves are extremely quiet and emit very low vibration. Computer on Module

Technologic Systems, Fountain Hills, AZ, has released a new computer-on-module (COM) and placed it into the company’s engineering sampling program. The TS-4100 is the company’s first COM to feature the NXP i.MX 6 UltraLite processor, a single ARM Cortex A7 core operating at speeds up to 695 MHz. The NXP i.MX 6UL processors offer scalable performance and multimedia support, along with low power consumption. Typical power usage is 300 mW, making it ideal for embedded applications with strict power requirements. It can also be used as a standalone micro single board computer.

Miniature Motor

Portescap, West Chester, PA, has added a new 22-mm diameter motor to its DCT line of brush DC motors. Featuring energy-efficient coreless design with an optimized self-supporting coil and magnetic circuit, the 22DCT Athlonix motor delivers higher performance in a compact package. The motor can reach a continuous torque up to 13.29 mNm at a length of only 32 mm. The motor has the lowest motor regulation (R/K2) compared with similar motors, meaning it has a lower drop in speed at increasing loads. Radio Modem

Lemos/Radiometrix, Barrington, RI, has launched a high-power narrowband radio modem that provides an RF output of up to 500 mW with a data rate of up to 19200 bps. The HNM2 meets the ETSI EN 300 220-1 Category 1 specification for high-performance receivers where a short-range radio device may have inherent implications for the safety of human life. This makes the multichannel, low-power consumption device suitable for use in safety critical wireless applications such healthcare monitoring. Current consumption is only 280 mA for transmit and 40 mA for receive, from a supply voltage of 6–16 V dc. Providing a direct interface to SPI, USB, RS232, and RS485 serial ports, it measures only 80 × 86 × 15 mm. Power can be provided via the USB link or an external supply.
