Bern Optics (Westfield, MA) offers submillimeter optical prisms with dimensions to 0.20 mm for use in laparoscopic and endoscopic medical devices. They can be custom-engineered, ground, and polished in a variety of difficult configurations, including optical wedges of any given angle, beam splitter cubes, parallel plates, and custom configurations with combinations of plano, spherical, or cylindrical faces. The microscopic elements — some as small as a grain of salt — are created from optical and filter glasses with minimal edge chipping. They are suitable for use in instrumentation requiring extremely precise optical components.
