Potomac Photonics (Lanham, MD) has released the BioFAB 1000MB multibeam and 500 MB laser systems. The 1000 MB can house up to six lasers or a combination of lasers and mechanical devices; the 500 MB holds three lasers or mechanical devices. The systems can machine materials such as polymers, metals, ceramics, glass, and diamond, depending upon wavelengths, which vary from 193 nm to 1064 nm. Other features include micromachining down to 1.9 microns (±0.3 micron), embedded interconnect channels down to 10- 12 microns width and depth, vias down to 30 microns, flexible breadboard design, and X, Y, Z, and U motion. Applications include diagnostic, delivery, and monitoring devices.
