Workpiece Holders
Dillon Manufacturing, Springfield, OH, offers claw jaws designed to securely grip a workpiece to enable more aggressive turning. The jaws feature an optimized contour that — along with the jaws weight, center of gravity, and cutting forces — combine to securely grip workpieces by minimizing jaw clamping force losses. Available for most commercial chucks, the claw jaws provide increased clamping pressures on both OD and ID of the workpiece. Clamping depth can be varied using workpiece stops, providing flexibility in machining. Many standard sizes are stocked. Custom designs are available with no engineering fees. The claw jaws are manufactured from 8620 steel for durability and long service life.

Morphing Technology
Mesh-morphing technology from RBF Morph, Rome, Italy, is now being fully integrated into the Ansys software portfolio. The two simulation tools — Ansys RBF Morph Fluids and Ansys RBF Morph Structures — can help companies optimize their products and achieve optimal efficiency within the Ansys simulation platform. Ansys RBF Morph Fluids is an add-on that allows for automated shape optimization studies entirely within Ansys Fluent, leveraging morphing of the existing mesh. Ansys RBF Morph Structures is an ACT extension that allows for automated shape optimization studies entirely within Ansys Mechanical and Ansys Workbench by morphing the existing mesh.

Stopcock Manifold
Qosina, Ronkonkoma, NY, has introduced a stopcock manifold that provides a serial sequence of incompatible drugs and enables flushing fluid in between. The RondelO are available in 2-, 4-, or 6-luer inlet ports with a through line for flushing fluid. Each luer port is ISO 80369-7 compliant. They are suitable for in the bioprocess industry for easy sampling, either manually or automatically from a bioreactor. Additional luer-to-barb connectors may be needed to attach tubing to the stopcock manifold. The automation aspect streamlines the sampling process using only one motor turn of its handle.

Polycarbonate Copolymers
A family of polycarbonate copolymers from SABIC, Houston, TX, can help prevent stress cracking and mitigate crack propagation. LNP™ ELCRES™ CRX, which are amorphous and semi-crystalline blends, can potentially serve as offset solutions in existing injection mold tools for a variety of materials. Options include LNP ELCRES™ CRX1314TW copolymer or its bio-based equivalent, LNP ELCRIN™ CRX1314BTW copolymer, which offers up to a 42 percent reduction in carbon footprint based on life cycle assessment (LCA). Both grades feature limited biocompatibility according to ISO 109931.

Design Platform
Zuken, Westford, MA, has released a design platform for ECAD and fluid design. The E3.series release includes enhancements in 3D functionality for control panel design, circuit diagram generation, and an improved user experience. The software’s enhanced 3D functionality allows for more accurate and efficient design. Enhancements to the 3D functionality in the control panel design applications meet the need for designing control panels in increasingly limited spaces. Elements such as mounting panels can now be arranged and edited at any angle. The 3D geometries from mechanical CAD systems can be imported in a single operation.

Vision Inspection

A bottle vision inspection system from Norwalt, Randolph, NJ, integrates standardized vision components with custom-made elements and deep learning tools. The Vue Inspection System can monitor gaging defects as minuscule at 10 thousandths of an inch on a translucent surface. It accomplishes this by using shape transformation on the sloped areas of bottles.
