Servo Drives

Aerotech Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, has released two new servo motor drives that feature integrated motion controllers designed to command 12 axes at 20 kHz over the glass optical fiber HyperWire motion bus. The Automation1-iXL2e is a compact, single-axis linear amplifier servo drive, and the Automation1-iXC6e is a high-powered PWM servo motor drive. The iXL2e offers in-position stability and small step size operation, and it generates an extremely low amount of EMI noise. The controllers can now be set up to use an analog input to control the velocity or current command of a drive, including velocity feedforward and acceleration feedforward.

Miniature Servo Motors

Miniature linear voice coil servo motors are now available from Moticont, Van Nuys, CA. The LVCM-025-029-02 and the LVCM-025-029-02M (metric version) miniature 1-in. (25.4 mm) diameter brushless high speed linear servo motors feature high force-to-size ratios, and zero cogging. Clean, quiet, and efficient, they feature high accuracy and high repeatability, and sub-micron resolution when operated in a closed loop as a DC servo motor. Featuring low inertia and high acceleration/deceleration for high throughput, these new linear servo motors have a stroke length of 0.313 in. (7.9mm), a high-force-to-size ratio of 37.6 oz. (10.5 N) and a peak force of 118.9 oz. (33.1N) at 10 percent duty cycle.

Extrusion Tooling

Guill Tool & Engineering, West Warwick, RI, has introduced an extrusion crosshead that uses microfine adjustment screws for precise concentricity adjustment. The Micro Medical provides precision of concentricity that reaches 0.008 in. or finer per revolution. One adjustment bolt controls 360° of adjustment. Features include a patented cam-lock deflector for quick changeovers, with a residence time of one minute at 0.5 lb/hr material flow, optimized usage with extruders measuring ½ and ¾ in., and a max die ID of 0.250 in. In addition to both vacuum and micro-air accessories, it is also ideal for pressure and sleeving applications. Fluoropolymer designs are available upon request.

Micro Drive

An extra- low-voltage micro drive is available from Siemens, St. Paul, MN. The Simatic micro drive consists of the PDC (profidrive control) servo drive in conjunction with a flexible range of motors and connecting cables from product partners, along with the TM (technology module) format with servo and stepper drives in compact 20 mm width that can be used in conjunction with distributed or open controllers. Communication takes place over PROFINET using PROFIsafe and PROFIdrive profiles. A new safety integrated function, SLT (Safely Limited Torque), limits torque by monitoring motor current in running operation.
