Linear Servo Drives

Aerotech Inc., Pittsburgh, PA, has released a precision machine and motion control platform. The latest additions include new servo motor drives with integrated motion controllers and several advanced features. Two new servo motor drives feature integrated motion controllers that can command 12 axes at 20 kHz over a glass optical fiber HyperWire motion bus. The Automation1-iXL2e is a compact, single-axis linear amplifier servo drive, and the Automation1-iXC6e is a high-powered PWM servo motor drive. With Machine-Apps, machine and system builders can create machine HMIs for each deployed Automation1 motion controller.

Leak Testing Equipment Calibration

Marposs, Auburn Hills, MI, has introduced a universal device that makes the calibration and validation of leak testing equipment both simpler and more accurate than offline methods. The Tecna leak tester control (LTC) is an inline instrument that sits between any brand of leak tester and the component being tested. It connects to each using a Staubli ^® brand RBE03 quick-connect T-fitting (provided), making installation easy. It is equipped with an adjustable needle valve that lets technicians simulate a leak, then verify that the connected test equipment will identify the failure and reject components accordingly. Simulated leaks are enabled or disabled via a button on the LTC’s 3.5 in. color LCD display.

Online Rupture Disk Selection Guide

BS&B Safety Systems, Tulsa, OK, has launched an interactive product selection guide focused on helping process engineers select the correct rupture disk product from the many options the company offers. The web-based tool allows users to input basic application needs, such as product size and set pressure, to find the solutions that best match their requirements. Additional application inputs refine the search. The guide accelerates rupture disk product selection without need for registration. The guide allows users to identify core application requirements via drop-down menus using their preferred technical units for pressure and temperature to ensure that they arrive at the correct product. Menus include product size, burst pressure, connection type, and service phase (gas, liquid, or 2 phase flow).

Medical Power Supply

COSEL Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan, has expanded its medical power offering. The first two models in the UMA series are the 30 W UMA30F and the 60 W UMA60F. Both models feature a universal input range of 85-264 VAC and comply with international safety standards. Designed for demanding medical applications, the UMA series is suitable for body floating (BF) applications and complies with 2MOPP (IN/OUT) and 1MOPP (OUT/FG) safety requirements. The series is available in up to five output voltages of 5, 12, 15, 24, and 48 VDC. Currently four single output voltages are available as standard for the UMA30F: 5 V/3 A, 12 V/2.5 A, 24 V/1.3 A, and 48 V/0.65 A, and five for the UMA60F: 5 V/6 A, 12 V/4.5 A, 15 V/3.5 A, 24 V/2.5 A, and 48 V/1.25 A. Output is factory adjusted to a fixed value, but in applications where output voltage adjustment is required, an option ‘Y’ with potentiometer is available.

Capped IDC Connectors

Kyocera AVX, Fountain Inn, SC, has added four- and five-position models to its 9176-700 Series capped insulation displacement contact (IDC) connectors for 18-24 AWG wire, which are engineered medical applications as well as other applications. The connectors have a low-profile surface-mount form factor with an integrated termination/retention cap that allows users to simply insert a wire into the contact — no stripping required — and press it down to provide a robust and reliable gas-tight connection to the PCB. The series is available in through-wire and wire-stop variants for maximum flexibility. Through-wire models allow wires to be terminated at any point, while wire-stop models terminate the end of the wire and have a stop face feature to protect the wire end.

Self-Powered LCD Counter

A pulse counter from ENM Counting Instruments, Chicago, IL, features a seven-digit LCD display with a self-powered CMOS circuit. The units are powered by an internal lithium battery. The Series L3/L4 AC/DC totalizing counter or hour meter can be with and without external electronic reset. The total running count or time is displayed at all times. The meter is 100 percent epoxy encapsulated and protected from shock and vibration to protect it in harsh environments. The instrument is ideal for any application that requires reliable count or time keeping for service maintenance schedules in a small space.

Push/Pull Solenoids

Magnetic Sensor Systems (MSS), Van Nuys, CA, has released 18 low-profile push/pull clapper solenoids with the ampere turns (windings) adjusted to meet the specific force and duty cycle requirements of an application. The S-66-100 Series solenoids are just 1 in. in diameter and 0.66 in. deep. The compact solenoids have a 0.40 in. stroke and can be operated at a variety of duty cycles (voltage dependent). Supplied with 4-in. leads, mounting is via two 4-40 UNC or M3 × 0.5 threaded studs 0.25 in. long on a 0.656-in. bolt circle. The pull end of the shaft features a 6-32 thread 0.50 in. long. The push end is 0.125 in. in diameter.

Automated Grinding Machine

ANCA, Wixom, MI, has introduced an automated regrinding system that runs mixed-tool batches. The FX-RFID uses two pallets and a pallet top with a maximum capacity of 88 tools. Regrinding an endmill or a similar cutting tool takes an average of five to six minutes at a rate of 10 tools per hour. With the RFID workflow, tools can be loaded into the machine without the need for pre-programming individual pallet pockets. The RFID and tool carrier can be placed anywhere on the RFID pallet top, and the tool holder’s RFID code is used to locate the assigned program.
