Microscale 3D Printer

Boston Micro Fabrication, Boston, MA, (BMF), has released a new microscale 3D printing system. The microArch™ S350 is built on the company’s Projection Micro Stereolithography (PμSL) technology, a technique that allows for rapid photopolymerization of layers of liquid polymer using a flash of UV light at microscale resolution. The printer is 100 × 100 × 50 mm with fewer projection zones to improve print speed. An automated lateral membrane shift enables easier part removal or integration with a robotic arm. Additional capabilities include automated resin fill and adjustment, a laser displacement sensor, and an advanced roller that spreads layers at greater speed.

Low Viscosity Silicone

EpoxySet, Woonsocket, RI, has released an optically clear, soft silicone for potting, sealing, and encapsulating applications. The SILAST™ SC-417 is a 1:1 mix system that cures overnight at room temperature or within 30 minutes at 150 °C with a work time of about 30 minutes. The extremely low viscosity allows for penetration of components to yield a complete, air-free potting. The silicone cures to a hardness of Shore A23. It excerpts no stress on parts during or after cure, and it is excellent as a physical barrier to protect components from both physical and environmental conditions. The low 1.41 refractive index and high optical clarity allow for very high transmission at wavelengths from 320 to 2000 nm.

Demo Package for Health Patches

Henkel, Dusseldorf, Germany, and Quad Industries, Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, have developed a demo package of 12 electrodes designed to allow engineers to quickly test the functionalities of smart health patches. The electrodes contain five different Henkel materials. The demo patches contain a dry electrode adhesive that ensures the crucial electrical contact with the skin. This adhesive provides enables the health patch to be worn for multiple days. In addition, the demo electrodes contain a novel conductive silver ink that facilitates the stretchability of the electrode. This novel ink enables the electrical signal to remain a consistent high quality while also providing a high comfort level for the patient.

EMI Silicone

An EMI silicone filled with nickel-coated graphite particles is available from Specialty Silicone Products, Ballston Spa, NY. The 40-durometer SSP502-40 is electrically conductive, environmentally resistant, and provides proven levels of shielding against electromagnetic interference (EMI). It combines EMI shielding and environmental sealing in a cost-effective conductive elastomer. It offers comparable performance levels to silver-filled silicones while supporting thinner, smaller, and lighter-weight designs. It has a minimum attenuation level of 115 dB at 20 MHz. Because the base elastomer is silicone, it also seals out moisture and resists both high and low temperatures.

Hinged-Lip Enclosures

ROLEC, Bridgeville, PA, offers hinged-lid enclosures for industrial electronics in eight sizes. The enclosures are available with or without a transparent window for displays. The polyDOOR’s integrated hinges allow the lid to be removed in a few seconds. The lid is locked with polyamide fixings — either standard slotted screw heads, triangular, or square heads (to prevent tampering), or hand screws for rapid access. Threaded pillars inside can be used for mounting PCBs, terminal rails, and component assemblies. Options include choice of lid fixings, external mounting brackets, a silicon gasket, mounting plate, cable glands, cross rails, and DIN rails.
