CT Software

Volume Graphics, Charlotte, NC, has released a new version of its CT software, which captures and analyzes data from industrial CT scans of injected molded parts. Version 3.5 incorporates information into the user’s design tools to make changes that improve product quality and performance.

The software provides automated design-geometry adjustment and repair tools that can be used to correct and/or offset issues that stem from the manufacturing process itself.

The software fine-tunes surface fitting and provides compensations that are within tolerances, enabling users to immediately see whether design changes are compatible with mold making.

Molding Material

BASF, Rhein, Germany, has expanded it polyphenylsulphone (PPSU) portfolio so that bottles can be manufactured by injection stretch blow molding, extrusion blow molding, and injection molding. All three processing methods benefit from the customized properties of the high-temperature thermoplastic. The material contains no harmful substances and offers excellent strength, chemical resistance, and long-term high-temperature stability up to 180 °C. During extrusion blow molding, the plastic melt is extruded from top to bottom through a circular die to form a tube-shaped parison. Internal pressure is then used to inflate the parison within a mold, thus giving the part its shape.
