Linear DC Micro Welder

Amada Miyachi America, Monrovia, CA, offers a linear DC micro welder that features closed-loop feedback. The UB29A delivers a precisely controlled, repeatable waveform with an ultra-fast rise time of less than 200 μsec, all in a compact size and single-phase input. It is ideal for micro-miniature resistance welding of wire assemblies, sensors, connectors, squibs, catheters, orthodontic appliances, pacemakers, implantable hearing devices, battery packs, and more. When equipped with a Model 71 servo motor controlled weld head, it is suitable for use in either automation or benchtop welding. The weld head offers controlled, fast, repeatable servo motor actuation with extremely low-end force control (0.25 lb), remote control I/O and PC communication, and several displacement and force options. Users can choose from two different models, each equipped with an easy-to-program, state-of-the-art servo motor controller for precise programming of electrode position and speed for up to 32 different weld schedules.

PolyJet Service

Proto Labs, Maple Plain, MN, has added PolyJet technology to its industrial 3D printing service. PolyJet provides product designers and engineers with the ability to manufacture elastomeric and overmolded prototypes without investing in tooling. Product developers can leverage PolyJet to create 3D printed parts comprised of both elas-tomeric and rigid materials as well as multiple colors. Its material selection includes multiple Shore A hardnesses of tear-resistant Agilus 30 for increased durability. PolyJet parts exhibit smooth surface finishes and can support complex geometries with flexible features. Like other 3D printing processes, PolyJet builds parts layer by layer. The machine jets out droplets of liquid photopolymers onto the build platform where they are immediately UV cured. Once the build is complete, support structures are removed, and the parts are ready without the need for additional finishing.

Measurement Software

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, North Kingstown, RI, has launched the second of two major releases of its measurement software. PC-DMIS 2017 R2 introduces Slideshow for INSPECT software, allowing users to create unlimited customizable layouts with inspection results populated during measurement. INSPECT software was first introduced with PC-DMIS 2017 R1 in January 2017 as a simple front-end for PC-DMIS Measurement Routines. The optional Slideshow tab can display multiple slides of dimensional and informational labels whenever users execute a measurement routine. The native mesh resolution is improved from import to visualization. R2 makes it easier to apply a color map to the mesh data object and create annotation points, align mesh data objects to the CAD model or align a mesh to another mesh object.

The EF High Performance Micro Drills range from 0.0295 in. (0.75 mm) to 0.1181 in. (3.0 mm) in diameter. All of the micro drills are coolant through design. They are ideal for producing very small deep holes in steel, cast iron, stainless steels, and nonferrous materials. All tools are 6xD length and can accommodate most production applications. Their unique face geometry generates short chips in the drill operation, ensuring high drill hole accuracy. The micro face point and flute geometry, in addition to the coolant-fed design, enable excellent chip evacuation for the highest possible drilling speed, while reducing the need for peck cycles or clearing chips.

Built on a Rockwell Automation platform and using a Hardy HI4050CW controller, the Dynamic Checkweigher is a fully automated system designed to weigh items automatically in motion. The Checkweigher controller can communicate both upstream and downstream across the connected enterprise network. Automated control is done with an embedded Rockwell Automation CompactLogix™ PLC while communicating with the check weighing controller. The system can process between 20 and 350 pieces per minute. The system, which has a stainless-steel base and cabinet, weighs products of virtually any shape or size.
