Miyachi Unitek Corporation, Monrovia, CA, a leading manufacturer of welding equipment and laser systems, announced that David Fawcett has been appointed as President and CEO of Miyachi Unitek Corporation, after serving as the Chief Operating Officer of Miyachi Europe Corporation for the past two years.

Glooko, Inc., Palo Alto, CA, makers of an innovative mobile logbook solution for people with diabetes, announced the hiring of Rick Altinger, who will serve as Glooko’s first CEO, and Dean Lucas as vice president of product development. In addition to growing its team, the company received FDA 510(k) clearance for its products and launches Glooko Logbook Charts to allow people with diabetes to analyze blood glucose readings through visual graphs.

Precision manufacturing expert Accudynamics, Lakeville, MA, has appointed Stuart Woodward to Vice President of Operations. Accudynamics produces precision machined components, integrated electromechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies for use by medical, scientific, and industrial equipment manufacturers

Teknor Apex Company, Pawtucket, RI, an international polymer technology company, has appointed William J. Murray as its new president. He has also been appointed president of Singapore-based Teknor Apex Asia Pacific. Teknor Apex operates twelve manufacturing facilities in the US, Europe, and Asia.

Dune Medical Devices, Framingham, MA, is relocating to Boston’s Innovation District following the FDA’s recent approval of the company’s breast cancer tissue assessment tool.

Quality Tech Services, Inc., Minneapolis, MN, a provider of medical device assembly, packaging, and sterilization services, has completed its Bloomington, MN, facility expansion adding 17,000 square feet, another ISO Class 7 cleanroom, and additional component cleaning, label printing, and final packaging areas.

Contour Energy Systems, Inc., Azusa, CA, an innovator of next-generation battery systems, announced the opening of its Research & Development Center in Singapore. Founded in 2007 as a collaboration of Caltech and the French National Center of Scientific Research, Contour Energy pioneers breakthroughs in fluorine-based battery chemistries, nanomaterial science, and advanced manufacturing processes.

Mergers/Acquisitions/Collaborations

MW Industries, Inc., Rosemont, IL, a leading provider of highly engineered springs, specialty fasteners, and other precision components, has completed the acquisition of Lifeline Products, Inc., Wallingford, CT, a leading OEM manufacturer of custom hypodermic needles, assemblies, and related medical products.

Single Source Technologies, Auburn Hills, MI, a North American distributor of machinery brands such as Makino and Murata, announced its acquisition of Beckman Precision Inc., Greer, SC, a machine tool distributor, as it looks to expand its distribution network in the Southeast region.

Miscellaneous

Joining Technologies, Inc., East Granby, CT, an innovator in industrial laser applications, has successfully obtained certification to the ISO 13485 standard for the manufacture of medical devices. Joining Technologies is one of very few welding service companies who have met the rigorous ISO 13485 medical device standard, setting it apart from other welding houses.

Ethicon LLC, San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico, which manufactures sutures, meshes, hemostats, and topical skin adhesives, was named a 2012 Best Plants Winner by Industry Week.

Parker Hannifin Corporation, Cleveland, OH, the global leader in motion and control technologies, announced that it will market its new exoskeleton device under the name Indego™. Parker recently announced an exclusive licensing agreement with Vanderbilt University for its exoskeleton technology, giving Parker exclusive rights to develop, manufacture, and sell the device, subsequent to the appropriate regulatory clearances. Parker intends to invest in further development of the technology and establish a business unit targeting commercial launch of the exoskeleton device in 2014.
