A new research robot from Uppsala University engineers finds optimal treatment combinations for cancer treatments. The robotic system plans and conducts experiments with many substances, and draws its own conclusions from the results, according to Dr Claes Andersson, leading scientist in the project.

"The idea is to gradually refine combinations of substances so that they kill cancer cells without harming healthy cells," said Andersson.

The lab technology has the ability to handle a dozen drugs simultaneously.

Researchers from the university aim to make the robot system "smarter" and more automated. The scientists also want to build more prior knowledge into the guiding algorithm of the robot: for example, known information about drug targets and disease pathways.
