RF-Wireless Foot-Operated Controls

Posted in Products, Automation & Controls on Sunday, May 01 2005

STEUTE Meditech (Ridgefield, CT) has introduced wireless foot-operated controls that are CE-, TUV-, and UL-compliant. The units feature spread-spectrum, frequencyhopping technology for interferenceimmune performance. Operating in the ISM 2.4-GHz band, the short-range technology (up to 10 meters) provides continuous monitoring of the integrity of the bidirectional transmission path, a handshaking protocol for device compatibility, and a floor sensor to protect against inadvertent operation.

Multiple or different foot controls can be operated in parallel and in close proximity without crosstalk or interference. The controls can provide up to 14 digital and 2 analog control functions, and require power of 2.9 to 3.4V at 150mA. They are powered by rechargeable lithium batteries that provide more than 20 hours of continuous operation. Charge level can be monitored via a digital or analog display, or an audible low-charge alarm signal.

Applications include x-ray equipment, laser surgery devices, surgical microscopes, positioning tables, high-frequency surgical equipment, bone saws, dental systems, and diagnostic camera systems.
